Case Study: Strategic alliance with Cocoon Bioscience

The construction of a new industrial plant is always a complex challenge, especially when there is a tight deadline for completion.

For Cocoon Bioscience, a biotechnology company specialized in the production of complex recombinant proteins, the challenge was presented in Bilbao, where they had to have an operational plant up and running in just one year, complying with the highest regulatory standards. To achieve this, they relied on our team to coordinate and support the project as the design was being developed.

A challenge of critical times

“The main challenge was time,” says Miguel Urabayen, Cocoon’s production manager. The project had to be carried out on a very tight schedule and started from a basic design, with no detailed engineering developed.

In this context, our support in the supervision of the engineering and in the day-to-day work was a key factor in transforming a highly complex challenge into a success story.

“Klinea has been with us from the beginning of the choice of equipment, and its contribution has been key in two aspects: its technological knowledge and its help in the scalability of our processes,” Urabayen emphasizes.

An integrated, multidisciplinary and coordinated team

The project required quick decisions, depending on the evolution of the design, and it was essential to work closely and intensively with the different departments of both companies.

What really made the difference for Cocoon was the approach of the Klinea team and our ability to resolve doubts in an agile and coordinated manner. “The most valuable thing has been the great knowledge they have in all their areas and the fluid communication between their departments” adds Urabayen.

Cocoon’s new plant in Bilbao is an example of how experience, know-how and collaborative management can make possible what, at first glance, seems unattainable.
